Noticeboard

23.3.20 - new service now running for all COVID related health enquiries only - please click COVID HUB for more info or dial 111 any time of day or night. Please contact the practice for all health matters not relating to COVID 19.

Due to the recent Coronavirus outbreak we will be changing our appointment system on a temporary basis from Monday 16th March 2020. Anyone calling for an appointment will be asked to leave a phone number and then called back by a GP to discuss their problem. This is to minimise exposure risks to both patients and staff. For the same reason, online booking of appointments has also been suspended.

Any appointments booked prior to this point will go ahead as planned.

To minimise the number of patients who have to come to the practice we will not be performing smears or other routine procedures such as minor surgery until the coronavirus situation stabilises

Coronavirus  - for the latest and most up to date information please see https://www.nhsinform.scot/coronavirus

Do not visit the surgery if you are unwell and have recently travelled to an area affected by the virus: please check the above website or call the surgery to discuss

We are delighted to announce that our practice has been awarded the Royal College of General Practitioners Scotland 'Practice Team of the Year' award for 2017/18. This award has been made for our involvement in the Govan SHIP Project which helps to improve the health and social care of our patients. The Govan SHIP Project is also being undertaken by the Blue Practice Govan, The Green Practice Govan and Dr Mair and Partners Govan. We are are very proud and honoured that our work has been recognised in this way by the RCGP.

As part of the Govan SHIP Project we have been able to employ the services of an Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner (Mr Eden Keillar). Eden is a highly experienced physiotherapist and will be with our practice on Thursdays and Fridays. He can be seen by any of our patients from aged 14 upwards. Please speak to our reception staff if you would like to book a physiotherapy appointment directly.

Shielding Advice for High Risk Patients

The Government are in the process of sending out letters to those patients thought to be at highest risk of developing a severe illness if they catch Coronavirus (COVID 19). This letter will provide advice on what to do and can also be used to show employers that those people cannot work outside of their home (instead of the patient requiring a GP Fit Note).

The practice will be telephoning affected patients in the coming weeks to discuss the advice given by the Government

Practice History

Previously known as The Blackwood Partnership, our practice is one of the oldest in Govan with a history dating back to the early 20th century. In 2015 we changed the practice name to the David Elder Medical Practice by popular demand from our patients. Born in 1795, David Elder was a marine engineer known as one of the forefathers of shipbuilding on the Clyde. For more information see the excellent website at www.acumfaegovan.com
